My name is Jack Kelly, and as a criminal lawyer with more than 20 years of experience defending clients in Alberta’s criminal justice system, I recognize and understand the importance of an open, straight-forward relationship with my clients. Perhaps that is why many of my clients remember the number of my office by heart long after their cases have been resolved.
The approach I employ at my practice as “JJ Kelly Barrister” is to visualize the case from the perspective that my trial experience has given me. This allows me to offer the most candid and realistic advice. It also gives me the ability to recognize what is the most valuable information to obtain to prepare the best possible defence for each client. My goal is to vigorously defend your rights and your freedom and deliver a robust defence.
I have focused my two-decade practice exclusively in criminal law. I defend clients against charges of all levels of severity; from first-degree murder and all lesser other crimes such as:
My experience performing effective examinations and cross-examinations spans all of Alberta’s trial courts, including traffic court, provincial court, the Court of Queen’s Bench and arguing appeals in the Alberta Court of Appeal.
I personally prepare each case from the very beginning and I work on each matter meticulously until it is resolved. I make sure that all the defence evidence is ready for trial, even if a case eventually does not reach that stage. I have all the research tools and an extensive history of performing effective examinations and cross-examinations.
If you or a loved one has been arrested, charged with a crime or placed under investigation, I encourage you to contact me for a free preliminary assessment of your case. I normally bill my work on a retainer established with you during or after this initial assessment. Naturally, I understand how much stress a criminal proceeding puts on a person, so I try to have my retainer fees reflect my clients’ means. I am also prepared to accept legal aid certificates for those clients when applicable. My office accepts debit and credit cards.
